Sexual assault happens in every community and to all ages and gender. Sexual violence is any type of unwanted sexual contact, this includes non consensual image sharing, words, manipulation. Victims are never at fault for this type of unwanted sexual conduct. Violating a person is a choice of the perpetrator. Each survivor reacts to sexual violence in their own way. Some common emotional reactions may include guilt, shame, fear, numbness, shock, sadness.

Domestic violence (also referred to as intimate partner violence (IPV), dating abuse, or relationship abuse) is a pattern of behaviors used by one partner to maintain power and control over another partner in an intimate relationship. In our work together we will discuss the dynamics of power and control and the different forms of manipulation that occur when you live through this type of violence. It is important to have a safe space to process the experience of domestic violence.

As a trained social worker my approach when working with clients is always from an anti oppressive framework. Understanding how systems of oppression such as colonialism, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, classism and ableism can result in individual discriminatory actions and structural/ systemic inequalities for certain groups in society. Experiencing systemic oppression can significantly impact mental wellbeing. I recognize the importance of validating this experience for my clients.
