About My Clients
Are you having racing thoughts, difficulty focusing, or trouble sleeping? Do you find you often forget things or have a hard time sitting still without fidgeting? Do you feel disconnected from others or struggle in social situations? Symptoms of ADHD and Autism can be difficult to navigate in a world that expects adults to always be “on top” of everything or the life of the party.
My Background and Approach
As a former special education teacher, I specialize in working with kids (ages 10+), teens, and adults with both mental health issues and developmental disabilities like Autism and ADHD. With therapy, we can work on strategies for managing the challenges and help you to feel more comfortable and confident in your life.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe everyone has the ability to change and grow. I believe all humans have the right to lead happy lives free of discrimination. I also believe that as humans, we make mistakes; and we often learn more from those mistakes than we do our successes. Because I truly believe everyone is an individual, I do not only work with one specific therapeutic modality and make sure my clients have individual treatment plans to meet their needs. I am a strong advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities. I truly believe there is no "one size fits all" approach for anything that actually works (even elastic socks come in different sizes!) and everyone should have the right to access the health care and education that is the right fit for them. In order to help fight the stigma of mental health in our culture, I am open about how therapy has helped me heal from my own childhood trauma, and I believe that is an important first step in reaching this goal.
