About My Clients
Are you stuck in unhelpful patterns in your relationship? Are you dissatisfied with your sex life? Are you struggling to communicate your needs/desires? All genders & sexualities, poly/open/monogamous couples, kinks, and sex workers are welcome and affirmed in my therapy room. Examples of typical issues I work with: intimacy issues (emotional or sexual), communication/conflict/other relationship issues, anxiety, substance use issues, coming out issues, adolescent/family conflict, etc.
My Background and Approach
I offer a nonjudgmental space for you to gain insights into your thoughts, feelings, needs, and desires. We will build on those insights to elicit the changes in your life that will give you healthy relationships and a satisfying sex life. As a SFSI-certified sex educator, I have comfort with diverse sexual issues. We will work through any shame, anxiety, and fear together as it comes up. I will help you learn your needs, desires, and boundaries so that you can build the life you want. I use DBT techniques for more immediate symptomatic relief such as mindfulness and distress tolerance, but our work will be insight-based (psychodynamic and attachment-oriented), so you can expect a deeper understanding of who you are. Finally, I work from a social justice perspective, as we don't live our lives in a vacuum, but rather within the greater contexts of our society.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in every individual's capacity for change. I believe that we are all shaped by our pasts, and that through gaining insight into that past, we can enact change. I believe that shame is the most paralyzing emotion, and therefore one of our biggest roadblocks to finding happiness. And I believe that the patterns we've learned in our past once helped us survive, but they may not be what's best to help us thrive.
