Leisa Watkins

I have extensive experience in working with families, couples and parent/child units to address conflicts in behaviors, with addictions, with anger, abuse, life crises, and differing values and belief systems. I work to help family units create a cohesive family plan and assist family members in following their family plan successfully.

I did my early practice and training in domestic violence and abuse, working both with perpetrators and with victims. I have experience in trauma recovery and anger management.

I currently work with substance users in the Idaho judicial system and those who are in danger of being caught up in the Idaho legal system because of addiction. I help clients through the recovery process and assist them in developing relapse prevention skills as well as helping families recover from the wounds of addiction.

Addiction affects not only the addict but everyone associated with them, i.e., their family. I focus on addiction by assisting both the addict and their family back to a level of health and recovery.

Every choice we make has a psychological effect on us. Negative patterns of behavior and thinking can be changed by implementing positive skills. I focus on teaching new skills to confront and eliminate poor behaviors and thought processes.

Trauma is the result of events that left mental/emotional wounds behind. I focus on mending those wounds by strengthening the client's sense of self and inner strengths.

Processing of information in the brain can be voluntary ofr involuntary. EMDR lets you control how memory is processed and stored, giving you control over emotional context and future responses. I provide the support as the client works on reprocessing old traumas and diffusing potential future traumas.
