About My Clients
I work with males ages 15 and up, couples, families, groups, and anyone in conflict. I really enjoy helping people navigate difficult situations and teaching them the skills to one day do it without me! Some of my favorite issues to work with are interpersonal issues, leadership/management, depression, anxiety, pornography addiction, men’s issues, and life transitions. However, if you don’t see your issue explicitly listed here, reach out anyway—let’s talk about whether I’d be a good fit!
My Background and Approach
As a high school teacher for ten years, I developed a style that is laid-back and highly personalized, using principles like curiosity, questioning, surprise, story, and fun to help make learning enjoyable! I’ll meet you where you’re at. If you want to start by sharing all the hard stuff, I’m there with a box of tissues in case you need it. But when you’re ready to dream together, I’m with you, your co-pilot to get where you want to go. You’re in the driver’s seat, but a lot of times I can help you see new paths: some shortcuts and some breathtaking scenic routes. If you’re here, my guess is you’re ready for results. That’s why I like Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to get quick traction! That being said, I also utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques to address thinking patterns and behaviors so we can achieve lasting progress. You might even find the process to be more fun and interesting than you expected!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
The most important personal belief that influences my counseling in my faith in Jesus. The best stuff I’ve ever learned about being a therapist came from the Bible. If you’re a fellow believer, we can incorporate your faith into our sessions as much as you want! If not, you can count on me to respect where you stand and do my best to help you either way. I believe in marriage. My wife and I have been together over 20 years, married for 14! Before we got married, people used to always tell us, “Marriage is hard but worth it.” Yes, being in a deep relationship with anyone for long enough has hard times, but I prefer to focus instead on how wildly beautiful marriage can be. Life is all about relationships. I believe in servant leadership, reconciliation, and serving those in need, such as those in foster care. Finally, I believe you have indescribable value. And I believe there is hope for you and for your future.
