If you have experienced trauma, it may feel like your emotions are "all over the place", that relationships can be chaotic or scary, and that it is hard to trust others and yourself. These are all common feelings for people who have experienced trauma, and by using grounding techniques, body-based interventions, and trauma processing we'll work together to feel whole, cohesive, and well-regulated.
My Background and Approach
I think everyone can agree that the ultimate goal of therapy is to feel better. However, therapy can bring up emotions from which you have been protecting yourself for a long time. Those emotions can be painful, but ultimately healing cannot happen when those feelings are left unresolved. This discomfort is a part of the process, and we will work together to make sure this discomfort doesn’t escalate to feeling totally overwhelmed or dysregulated. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I have had years of clinical training and practice focused on how to help you feel less disorganized and more emotionally regulated. My practice is informed by training and practice in attachment theory, psychodynamic therapy, trauma-informed therapy, and social justice. I have experience and training in working with those who have experienced trauma, including childhood neglect, childhood sexual trauma, childhood abuse, bullying, sexual trauma, intimate partner conflict, and medical trauma.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that people are complex and are capable of healing and growth even after surviving the most difficult of circumstances. I am Jewish and the idea of Tikkun Olam ("Healing the World") is a belief that is foundational to my practice. No one should face discrimination, prejudice, or violence based on the color of their skin, who they love, because of their different physical or mental capabilities, or for any other reason.
