Psychotherapist in New York, NY
I work with individuals seeking to improve their quality of life and achieve a greater experience of health, wellness and joy. Many of my clients are moving through important life transitions and benefit from having the support of a professional to identify strengths, challenges and goals. Every person's path is different and therapy is not a on-size-fits-all experience. I will personalize my work with you to support your unique lived experience.
People have the tremendous ability to cope with extreme life circumstances and hardship. When we experience symptoms of PTSD, it is because our minds and bodies have absorbed incomprehensible challenges and we have psychological and frequently physiological responses that can feel overwhelming or disruptive. Through a combination of approaches, I work with clients to safely integrate previous traumatic life experiences into an integrated framework to achieve both comfort and relief.
Anxiety is a common psychological experience that can feel debilitating at times. Whether you experience occasional symptoms of anxiety, or have anxious thoughts on a regular basis, or panic attacks, I work with my clients to identify personal strategies to dismantle the power that anxiety can hold over our lives. I think of anxiety as a mechanical process that can be approached and systematically broken down until we can manage stressors safely and sustainably.
I work with my clients through an insight-oriented, relational perspective - which means that we understand ourselves and others through the lens of our personal relationships. The relationship between the therapist and client is an important platform upon which we can look at identifying life challenges, emotional patterns and set goals.
I develop client-specific strategies through verbal psychotherapy and/or art therapy to acknowledge. identify and challenge negative patterns of beliefs, problematic thoughts and behaviors into more neutral territory. Once we can develop a relationship to the negative experiences, we have the ability to shift the outcome. I focus on client strengths to dismantle painful patterns and achieve personal wellness goals.
Art therapy is an integrative mental health and human services profession that enriches the lives of individuals through active art-making, creative process, applied psychological theory, and human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship. You do not need to identify as an artist or "creative" in order to benefit from art therapy! People choose to explore art materials in therapy as an opportunity for self-reflection or relaxation or as a way to safely release tension.
