I primarily work with women-identified adults who have experienced trauma. I use holistic, somatic methods to help women: - validate and express emotions including anger - cultivate inner strength, intuition, trust and creativity - connect to sensual pleasure and empowered sexuality - develop more satisfying relationships on your own terms - navigate patriarchy and gender oppression I especially love working with queer/bi women seeking to explore their sexuality and gender expression.
Feeling anxious or on edge, thinking negatively about yourself and the world, having trouble sleeping, being random flooded with emotion... These could all be signs of trauma or PTSD. It feels like chaos, but there is hope! Together we can make sense of your painful past and how it's impacting you now. We'll build your capacity to manage triggers while also cultivating your connection to the here and now and the things that bring you meaning and joy.
You want connection, and yet it's terrifying. Humans are wired for relationships. Our caregivers, friends, families, and partners are essential to our well-being and yet can be very challenging when those relationships also involve pain or abuse. My training is rooted in attachment theory and the ways in which a trusted therapeutic relationship can build towards secure, nourishing, and joyful relationships.
This is a creative and somatic method that invites in body awareness as well as expressive movement. Movement signifies vitality, change, adaptability, and is the opposite of stuckness and stagnation. When we mindfully allow thoughts and emotions to move, we can ride the waves of life with grace.
Somatic counseling invites the experience of the body into the therapeutic process including breath, internal sensations, postures, gestures, and expressive movements. Developing our ability to notice and listen to these embodied experiences is the most direct path to increasing self-awareness of our emotions, patterns, identities, values, needs, and desires.
Trauma can have a big impact on your life, but it doesn't have to be the whole story. Trauma-focused therapy provides a place to process past memories, make new meaning from your experiences, and move forward with a greater sense of confidence and ease. Connecting with your body and present moment sensations is a key part of this process that will help you cope now while also laying the foundation for a strong and joyful future.
Questioning your sexual orientation as an adult can be confusing and terrifying. You can feel the pent-up energy and longing in your body, and yet you're so afraid of what this might mean. I offer a safe, open-minded, and private space to connect with your body and explore your desires and identities. Then, we'll work together to figure out how you want to integrate your truth into your life and relationships.
There are plenty of "LGBTQ friendly" therapists, but not that many who really GET IT. As a member of the queer community and a therapist with professional training in LGBTQ mental health, queer issues mean way more to me than just putting a rainbow flag in my office. We'll get into the detail and nuance of your identities, unpack what this means for your family, job, sex, safety, and social life.
