About My Clients
Many of us carry some past pain with us into the present, in ways both big and small. We use different strategies to escape and cope — numbing, worrying, distraction, tuning out our own feelings. But I believe that deeper healing comes from staying in our experience and allowing another trusted person to be there alongside us. If you are ready learn to feel all that you are beyond the distraction, disconnection and pain, then I'm ready to do it with you.
My Background and Approach
My style is approachable and gentle — I believe that true healing only happens when you feel safe and when we're working as a team. Within a comfortable and trusting relationship, we'll work together to get to the root of what is causing you suffering. I use the approaches of short-term dynamic psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), and interpersonal therapy to treat anxiety, depression, relationship conflicts, and other issues. These approaches share a core belief that all the resources you need are already inside of you, and the role of the therapist is to help you identify barriers to your own emotional experience. I have a particular interest in helping individuals and families navigate their relationship to the internet and digital media.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am passionate about healthcare reform and believe that everyone deserves high-quality medical and mental health treatment, regardless of language, immigration status, insurance status or ability to pay. My day job is as the Coordinator of the Mental Health Collaborative at Casa de Salud, a nonprofit clinic providing care to people without insurance. I also work with clients in Spanish, and have experience working with individuals and families with immigrant backgrounds and immigration-related trauma.
