About My Clients
Are you worried about how pregnancy and having a new baby is going to impact your mental health, your identity, or your relationships? Growing a family brings about many different transitions at once and it can be overwhelming. I look forward to getting clarity about your hopes and concerns and collaborating with you to create a plan for the pregnancy and postpartum experience you want to have.
My Background and Approach
My approach is rooted in Narrative Therapy. Its non-pathologizing and collaborative principles resonate with my belief that each client’s experience is unique and deserves respect, careful attention and open consideration. My approach is practical and customized to your needs and preferences. I like to use humor as much as possible to bring lightness and acceptance into the work. If loved ones are interested in joining our sessions to support the change you're making in therapy, I always welcome them. I have extensive training and experience in Narrative Therapy gained through Narrative Initiatives San Diego's (NISD) residency program, and I currently volunteer with NISD as a supervisor, which keeps me in touch with foundational counseling ethics and values. I stay on top of the latest research in perinatal mental health through readings and trainings to ensure I am bringing the most up to date information to my client work.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe pregnancy and new motherhood can be empowering and that there are innumerable different ways to be a "good mother." There are many ideas circulating about how women and mothers are supposed to be, and I am passionate about collaborating with clients to deconstruct those dominant ideas to make room for client's own personal preferences and values as they intentionally construct their new identity as a mother.
