My Background and Approach
I decided to learn EMDR after years of working with clients in treatment and in my private practice. I felt that I was missing a way to help people other than talking about their feelings, I wanted to go deeper. I was curious about my personal traumas and how to heal from them. I took the EMDR basic training and soon after became EMDR certified. I now primarily use EMDR in person or on telehealth to treat clients who have PTSD and anxiety disorders.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that what has happened to us does not define who we are. We are in charge of our perception and get to make new meaning and redefine our stories from the past. Victor E Frankl said "The one thing you can't take away from me is the way I choose to respond to what you do to me. The last of one's freedoms is to choose one's attitude in any given circumstance." I believe that all people matter and that we should have compassion and love for everyone. One of the biggest problems in society today is people's inability to tolerate the anxiety that comes up in our differences. As a third generation holocaust survivor I see that hatred divides us all. I am very active in standing up and speaking out against antisemitism and racism. We need to learn from history and remember it so it doesn't continue to repeat itself. I believe that if you help heal one person it is as if you have healed the entire world.
