About My Clients

I have specific expertise working with adults of all ages who are facing a crisis, life transition, chronic health issues, and people who have lived experience with foster care or adoption. Issues related to grief and loss are very familiar to me. If you are a health care worker, a teacher, working within the child welfare system or other high stress professions, please consider reaching out. If you are a parent of a child experiencing chronic or life-limiting illness, I'm eager to help.

My Background and Approach

My background as a social worker has strongly informed my approach as a therapist. I've worked for many years with children and families, first in public health advocacy, then in LGBT family community building, in the child welfare system, and most recently as a medical social worker for parents and children facing a cancer diagnosis. I am inherently interested in people, human development and all of our complex variations. I draw from multiple therapeutic modalities including Narrative Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Gestalt, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I want to understand what's not working for the clients I see, so that we can clarify what needs to change.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe all of us have the capacity to change, and that being ready for change is a critical first step in the therapeutic process. Also, we live within systems that perpetuate structural oppression, and some of what we seek to change may be out outside of our control. When we step into a therapeutic space, we can't leave oppressive systems outside the door. I'm interested in calling out the effects of oppression on how we function in our daily lives. I'm interested in healing that allows us to step up in the world to experience life fully, but also to champion equity. Personally, I'm interested in growing my ability to recognize my own biases. This will be a lifelong endeavor.
