About My Clients
I enjoy working with a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, self-worth, personal growth, culture shock, non-ordinary states (including psychosis), dreams/nightmares, intergenerational trauma, meaning-making, and grief & loss.
My Background and Approach
I have substantial training in Internal Family Systems, Hakomi, and mindfulness, among other approaches. I've completed the IFS Institute Level 1 training. I strive to help clients explore, give voice to, and harmonize their inner systems, as well as envision a future that enlivens them. I believe that everyone has an inner drive to heal and fulfill a unique purpose in life, and that symptoms are often messages that when listened to carefully, can direct us towards greater balance and fulfillment. For in-person sessions I tend to use visual and creative approaches if that feels like a good fit; I have training in Sand Tray Therapy, Soul Collage, and creative writing, and often use illustrated Internal Family Systems cards as well as other imagery to help clients sort through and express thoughts, feelings and dreams.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I’ve lived in various other cultures and my first MA was in “Intercultural Youth and Family Development”; these experiences and studies have given me a perspective on dominant American culture that I likely otherwise wouldn’t have, a critical lens as well as appreciation for aspects of life here I used to take for granted. I know that often the issues that individuals are struggling with stem from overwhelming systemic issues. Despite these challenges, I passionately believe that positive growth and a vibrant and meaningful future are possible for everyone. I have an interest in how what is considered "psychosis" in the West is diagnosed and treated in other cultures, I have spent significant amounts of time studying this topic.
