About My Clients
I specialize in working with individuals who were physically or emotionally abused or neglected as children as well as sexual violence at any stage of life. I own a group practice serving children, adolescents and adults of all ages who have experienced trauma, grief and loss.
My Background and Approach
I have advanced training in trauma and attachment, including a post-graduate certificate in using expressive arts, mindfulness and parts work with trauma from The Ferentz Institute; over 225 hours of training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy; and additional training in Brainspotting (working toward certification), LifeForce Yoga and Internal Family Systems. I believe that experiential therapies like expressive arts and somatic work are the most effective at resolving childhood trauma. I use the 3-phase approach to healing trauma that is recommended by the International Society for the Study of Trauma & Dissociation (ISSTD), of which I'm a member. I earned my MSW at University of Maryland School of Social Work and I am licensed in Maryland as an LCSW-C.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I began volunteering at a very busy Sexual Assault Crisis Center in Southeastern Virginia, answering a 24 hour hotline and providing hospital accompaniment to individuals receiving Sexual Assault Forensic Exams back in 2002. I later became a crisis counselor at that organization, where I worked until moving to Maryland in 2006. In Maryland I again worked in a SACC until 2008, when I went to the Homeless Persons Representation Project for 2 years before graduating from Social Work school. In every place I have worked I have witnessed firsthand the impact of traumatic experiences on individual, family and community wellbeing. My personal mission is to spread the word about the impact of trauma by helping other therapists practice in a trauma-competent way and serving clients in my community with high quality trauma-sensitive therapy services. I am the host of a weekly podcast called Therapy Chat which is focused on trauma therapy; and a podcast called Trauma Chat.
