My Background and Approach
My love for helping people began in my college years as a mentor. Later, as a teacher, military family resource provider, volunteer women's counselor, and youth small group leader, I realized that counseling is my vocational calling. I personally know what it's like to be in counseling - for the first time, or what seems like the 1,000th time. I knows what it's like to work through the VERY hard things. More importantly, I knows how great progress feels, and wants to help you experience the same. The main counseling theory that I utilize is Carl Rogers’ Client Centered Therapy, which emphasizes an unconditional positive regard for the client and a non-judgmental approach. I strive to see every client with respect, genuine care and concern, and even awe at their unique life experiences and way of being. I also incorporate emotionally focused/attachment, artistic, Cognitive Behavioral, existential, imagery, and trauma techniques.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a professional counselor, I am committed to a certain way of doing things: To listen, and listen well To be kind, respectful, and fun (sometimes!) To help you feel heard, understood, and valued To help you understand yourself and others more deeply To help you set and reach goals To utilize proven techniques backed by research To provide re To provide relevant information in a way that makes sense to you To offer suggestions that may help To challenge you at times, in a respectful way To follow ethical guidelines set forth by the American Counseling Association I enjoys spending time with my husband, son, and two border collies. My interests include dancing, singing, bling, Jesus, hiking, animals, traveling, scuba diving, and dancing down the street to her favorite tunes. Counseling is an art - and I am an artist at heart. Let's make something beautiful together!
