About My Clients
In the presence of horses and surrounded by nature, I work to help others heal from traumatic life experiences, manage dissociation and strengthen internal resources.
My Background and Approach
Over the last 25 years, I have worked with youth and families in residential, community, home-based, outpatient and nature based settings. My areas of expertise include working with complex family systems, couples therapy and helping individuals of all ages overcome emotional difficulties originating from traumatic life experiences. My areas of interest include clinical supervision, consultation, caregiver support, EMDR, clinical hypnosis, meditation, farm based therapy, psychotherapy and EMDR with equine / animal interaction. Although I value, respect and utilize a variety of techniques, I find myself astounded by the horses‘ ability to ground us in the moment as well as reflect what it is we sometimes need to see.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Horses make great companions in psychotherapy because they respond to human behavior. As prey animals, they rely on an acute stream of sensory data to sense safety or danger. When people are introduced to the herd environment for therapy, horses respond within the same spectrum of physical and emotional responses that govern their own behavior, allowing for immediate feedback, co-regulation, new insights, growth and adaptive processing of information. No matter the model of psychotherapy or learning, the health and welfare of both the horse and the human is essential. Honest and regulated interactions are created together as a partnership.
