About My Clients
First time here? Or not your first rodeo? Maybe I am a good fit for you! I work best with individuals who enjoy a playful and humorous approach to therapy since life is too short to be too serious. I enjoy working with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and/or substance use concerns. I am not-religious and open about social inequalities and systemic problems that impact everyone. I take a harm-reduction approach to mental health and substance use issues.
My Background and Approach
I have been in the field of mental health and substance use recovery since 2016. While I have training in several different therapeutic modalities, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) is my go-to! I am also trained as a yoga instructor (YT200) and use this experience to find creative mindfulness activities. My undergraduate degree is in Sociology, which means that I incorporate systemic issues when working with clients (deep breathing isn't going to solve crippling anxiety from racial injustices and occupational expectations). I love providing psychoeducation about different mental health disorders and the brain. My approach to therapy is to join you on your journey as you explore your mental health and find creative ways to improve your well-being. I do not take a directive or prescriptive approach and let you lead the way since you know yourself best.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I adhere to the professional values set by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) (dignity and worth of person, the importance of relationships, service, social justice, competence, and integrity). In addition to these values, I am supportive of medication-assisted treatment for substance use recovery (methadone, buprenorphine products, naltrexone, etc.) and believe that there is no one right way to recover from addiction. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and am passionate about racial justice and systemic issues. I do not counsel with a religious focus and I am a sex positive, consensual nonmonogamy welcoming, kink affirming therapist. I am a huge animal lover and also love finding creative solutions for improving overall well-being. All individuals seeking in-person sessions must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Telehealth is available for those who are unvaccinated, not close to my office, or wanting to be extra safe during these uncertain times.
