My Background and Approach
Hi, I’m Laura—a therapist originally from Bogotá, Colombia, now rooted in North Carolina. With a background in psychology from Elon and a Master’s in Social Work from UNC-Chapel Hill, I’ve spent the past 8+ years supporting college students, graduate students, and medical professionals through anxiety, life transitions, grief, relationship struggles, and identity exploration. As the Director of Counseling Services at NC State’s College of Veterinary Medicine, I’ve seen firsthand how high-stress environments impact mental health. My approach is relational, compassionate, and grounded in EMDR, CBT, and ACT—helping clients heal from trauma, feel more connected, and build meaningful lives with honesty, warmth, and just the right amount of humor.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe therapy should feel like a space where you can just be—messy, honest, confused, hopeful, whatever’s real for you. I don’t think you need to be “fixed,” because you’re not broken. I think we all carry stuff that’s shaped us, and sometimes we just need a safe place to unpack it. I believe healing happens in relationships—with ourselves, with others, and yep, even with our therapist. I’m not here to judge or push toxic positivity. I’m here for rest, real talk, self-compassion, and figuring out what actually works for you. You don’t have to hustle for your worth here—you already have it.
