About My Clients

Via talk therapy we collaborate by exploring interpersonal relationships, family history, childhood dynamics, traumas, and identify maladaptive or destructive coping patterns. Therapy is appropriate for those who continue to recreate unhealthy or destructive patterns in their life that get in the way of their healthy functioning in the relational, occupational or personal domains. I offer therapy sessions virtually, and I am licensed to provide services in New York .

My Background and Approach

For over 19 years I have served the mental health community as a Special Education classroom teacher, School Social Worker, Therapist in private practice, wellness coach, yoga teacher, university professor and speaker. My goal is to create wellness spaces for people to alleviate psychological pain, access their inner calm, build emotional and cognitive resilience. Sessions will be tailored to the individual needs of each client with use of mindfulness, yoga and therapy. Together with client, I create sessions that honor the past experiences and create a sustainable future. Clients are supported to consider alternative ways of coping with psychological problems. I integrate mindfulness and yoga in the therapy session to support mind body connection thereby relieving symptoms and aiding clients in becoming more effective in their lives.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

My practice was created to provide access to quality mental health care for all people. Recognizing disparities in access to health care I am extremely passionate about ensuring access to services for Black Indigenous people of color. There are many barriers to mental health care for people of color such as cost, stigma and lack of provider cultural competence. My practice acknowledges that racism is a mental health issue and seeks to provide a space for people to grow, heal and challenge negative thoughts that lead to problematic behavior. I teach my clients to notice reactive tendencies when life challenges come their way, pay attention to how they are relating to others and explore ways to claim their power. My focus is wholistic and encourages the integration of mind, body and spirit. Sessions with me focus on breathing techniques, gentle movement to reduce physical tension, meditation, and self inquiry. The goal is to reduce psychological distress.
