About My Clients
Trauma doesn’t often show its effects immediately or plainly. It becomes wrapped up in patterns of sleepless nights, negative thinking, anxieties and feelings of despair and emptiness. It casts a long shadow that begins to de-color every aspect of life. Activities that were previously enjoyed become scheduled less often. And possibly even more disturbing is how it has changed who you are. You’ve noticed that the way you feel about the world or others is very different.
My Background and Approach
I specialize in treating trauma, PTSD, and complex (childhood) PTSD. I’ve had advanced training in the neurobiology of trauma and several evidence-based trauma therapies that have been shown to be effective in reducing the aftershocks of trauma. My main modalities are EMDR, Internal Family Systems, DBT-Prolonged Exposure Protocol, and Brainspotting. With advanced training in trauma-focused CBT (TF-CBT), TraumaPlay and Brainspotting for children I have helped children as young as three years old through young adulthood. To assist with some of the accompanying symptoms of trauma I am also trained in CBT-Insomnia, ERP for obsessions and compulsions, and SPACE for anxiety. My experience includes working with trauma in jails and schools. I have worked with attachment-deprived foster kids, disaster victims through the Red Cross, families traumatized by suicide attempts, and sexually or emotionally abused children and adults.I enjoy working with children (ages 9+), teens, adults and families.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everyone deserves someone who is on their team. With compassionate, relational trauma treatment, I'm not satisfied with only reducing your depression or ridding you of your anxiety symptoms. I have found that therapy can be transformative. Therapy in a safe relationship can change the way you respond to life's demands, and disappointments, can increase your belief in your self-worth, and even change how you relate to those who are close to you. Therapy with the right therapist can change how you see your future, while at the same time resolving past deep emotional wounds. I’ve chosen to focus most of my professional career on healing trauma for children as young as 3 years old to adults and families. i thrive working with children (ages 9+), teens, adults and families that have experienced the terrible loss and unexpected chaos that follows a traumatic event or period. My vision is that life can be better even following the unspeakable.
