Welcome. You Belong. I know the search for the right therapist can be challenging and I encourage you to reach out if you have questions.
Creative Art Therapist in , CA
I have extensive training with the Women's Cancer Resource Center in Berkeley, CA and have provided expressive arts therapy to the infusion center at Contra Costa Medical Center. I create a creative compassionate space to process the impact of diagnosis, feelings that might arise, desire for easeful conversations with loved ones, and end of life considerations. Receiving a diagnosis, decisions around treatments and the process of medical care can be so daunting.
I have lived experience as a bi/pan person and am dedicated to showing up for the community. I offer free of charge gender affirming surgery letter writing sessions to decrease barriers to this treatment. I have extensive training and experience working with LGBTQIAP+ folks at the LA LGBT center, Queer LifeSpace in San Francisco and Rainbow Community Center in Concord, CA. I also helped organize a LGBTQIAP+ focused therapy conference to support and develop affirming clinicians in LA.
I facilitated expressive art chronic pain groups in Contra Costa county and brought expressive arts therapy into the hospital setting to support patients during their medical care stay. The experience of chronic pain and illness can often be invisible and not understood by strangers or, painfully (pun intended) by loved ones as well. My therapeutic approach is grounded in compassion and exploration for the intricate ways the body, the mind and the spirit influence each other.
Expressive Arts Therapy is the integration of art, creative creation, music, drama, poetry, dance and movement. In sessions, we tend to flow from one to the other and back again. You do not have to be "good". I am amazed by the meaning, feelings, thoughts, memories and experiences that arise through expressive arts therapy. We tend to be out of practice with these forms of expression and healing, I'm here to guide you.
We are nature. We may have lost touch with that sense of belonging and our part in the balance of the planet. This is especially true for our societies amidst the climate catastrophe and the impact that has physically, mentally and spiritually. There are ways to help us heal, reconnect and take meaningful action to support us. In sessions, this might look like integrating the weather or nature surrounding us into our conversation or creative eco-art making or guided visualizations.
CBT is a well known evidence based practice which explores our thought patterns and how what we think influences how we feel and act. In sessions, I might encourage you to start a thought tracking log in order to best understand your thoughts throughout the day. We will also do skill building exercises to directly shift the thoughts and reactions that are not serving you.
