My Background and Approach
In my private practice, I work with adults of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, gender and sexual orientations. I tailor my approach to each individual to suit their specific needs. I naturally have a more active style, engaging in more dialogue than many therapists. If you need me to quietly listen, I listen and ask questions. I adjust to what makes you most comfortable so that you get the most our our time together. I'm a licensed psychoanalyst, which is a more unstructured talk therapy approach. This approach allows us to go deeper, getting to the root cause of conflicts so that they can be resolved, rather than just addressing the symptoms at the surface. Psychoanalysis is a longer term therapy so people tend to work with me for a couple of years; it takes time to see results, find new ways of relating to others and break behavioral patterns reinforced over your life time. That being said, I understand that people's life circumstances change and it may not always be possible.
