My Background and Approach
My style of therapy is collaborative and relational. Therapy is, at its core, a relationship. It is vital that you feel seen and understood to be engaged in the work we'll do. As such, I work to create a welcoming and safe environment that fosters connection and promotes change. Much of what we'll do is have exploratory conversations to assist you in increasing insight of yourself. We'll work together to foster awareness of your thoughts, emotions, and patterns to understand how these factors affect you. With this awareness, we'll work to meet your established goals so you can create the change you want in your life. I have a flexible and culturally responsive approach. I typically use strategies from the following types of therapy, tailoring my approach to best meet each client’s unique needs: Acceptance & Commitment, Cognitive Behavioral, Trauma- Focused CBT, Inference-based CBT, Compassion-Focused, Dialectical Behavior, Internal Family Systems, and Interpersonal.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that who we are is not defined by the problems in our lives. Importantly, the struggles we face do not exist within a vacuum. Rather, the challenges we experience take place within and are influenced by broad social, cultural, and historical systems. Given this, it is important to not just understand the self and our personal histories, but it is equally important to consider ourselves within the broader context of these systems. I also hold that we all possess the capacity for change.
