About My Clients
I have a lot of experience working with clients coming to therapy for a broad range of sexuality issues, including queer/LGBTQ+ clients, CNM/ENM, relationship issues, sexual abuse/trauma, and compulsive sexuality. I also have quite a bit of experience working with depression and anxiety. Most of my clients tend to be young adults and middle-aged folks.
My Background and Approach
I have a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, a Masters of Human Sexuality with a specialization in sex/relationship therapy, and I am a certified relational psychoanalyst. My approach tends to emphasize collaboratively developing awareness and insight into how client's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors have developed over time, including how they may explain the reasons they are seeking psychotherapy, and also developing skills and strtegies that will all clients to put this insight into action outside of the therapy room. I try to develop an optimal balance of support and challenge, sometimes relying on one over the other, dependeing on what the client needs.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'm a cisgender, educated, white, left-learning, gay man who tries not to put everyone into identity boxes that flatten them out. There's a lot of nuance in any identity and I think most people benefit from being in relationships that, as much as is possible, are cautious about jumping to any conclusions we may have been socialized to believe from our families, cultures, or political affiliations.
