About My Clients

My clients come from various cultural backgrounds and are searching for healing from the stress of navigating systems that continue to oppress or malign their lived experiences. I have over 6 years of training in the Bay Area with diverse communities and my approach to care embodies cultural humility, sensitivity to one's lived experience, and respect that you are the expert in your life. I have specialty training in trauma informed care (e.g, Prolonged Exposure) and grief/loss counseling.

My Background and Approach

Therapy is a journey and a vulnerable one at that. You should trust the therapist you are opening up to. This is why our therapeutic relationship is built on trust and empathy. Our alliance encourages collaboration in creating the healing space aligned with your values. Think of therapy as riding a motorcycle with me in the sidecar. We journey toward healing on a road paved with an individualized treatment plan. You are the expert in your life and my role is to organize, guide, reflect, and gently challenge you on this journey. My approach combines years of working with diverse communities in the Bay Area with an integrated therapeutic style applying best practices to meet your individual needs. My relational approach is combined with Trauma Informed Care, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Prolonged Exposure, and Emotion Focused Therapy where we can explore and process what concerns you the most. Each individual session becomes a place to explore and heal.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

What matters the most to me is constant learning and remaining true to my collectivist upbringing. There is so much out there to learn and there is so much value in hearing others stories. Theories are great and science gives a foundation, yet it is so important to recognize the humanity behind someone's life. Having been born and raised in Hawaii, community is an essential key to success. My Hawaiian roots taught me to remain humble because others contributions are just as important as yours. For me the motto "To whom much is given, much is expected" resonates in my profession alongside the value "kuleana" which means I have a deep responsibility to care for others. Beyond therapy, social justice and advocacy are key facets to my professional identity and I promote them through various means (e.g., sitting on committees, teaching). These values along with personal experience fuels my drive to improve access to quality care for all and giving space and voice to untold stories.
