My practice is comprised of me and 3 other amazing therapists that specialize in codependency, personality issues, and trauma.
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in Whittier, CA
I usually begin most therapy with body based exercises to re-link our body to our minds. Often, toxic stress and trauma lead to intellectualizing, and turning our feelings and body sensations off. It leads to illness, trauma responses, and blockage of memories. I start and come back to the body whenever we are stuck in therapy.
I believe that most interactions are related to fear of something. We figure it out in sessions, but you'll probably never hear those words during sessions. This is all about the process behind the work we do. It is the themes that will drive our work- fear of rejection, abandonment, death, living, freedom, etc.
Narcissitic PD and Borderline PD are my personal specialties. I work with family, and those struggling with the disorders themselves. I take my study of these personalities, and the study of toxic stress and combine them in a form of treatment that helps people form a solid identity. We work to find meaning, purpose, and new skills to engage in fulfilling relationships.
PTSD is a response to toxic or highly stressful events. It manifests itself in so many ways, and often is a great imitator of other issues like depression and anxiety. As a survivor of complex trauma- I have spent my career healing and specializing in trauma to a level most therapists haven't. I get the belief that there were decisions made that you swear resulted in what happened... I also understand how and why those beliefs are formed in the brain.
All trauma has a root. Many of our experiences are much deeper than we have reasoning or even memory. Research shows that we have memories and DNA effects of trauma from between 3 to 14 generations before us. Treatment is both body based and narrative focused. Healing our present often includes healing generations of trauma, abuse, and systemic oppression.
