About My Clients
My ideal age range is 3-8 years old, but I am no stranger to working with teens. I work a lot with behavioral issues, especially those that are interfering with their school life. Many clients I have seen dealt with anxiety, depression, anger, underdeveloped social skills, and traumatic experiences. I believe therapy is a team effort and appreciate when parents are eager to be a part of the process.
My Background and Approach
I specialize in Child-Centered Play Therapy founded by the amazing Gary Landreth. I use toys to help children learn independence, responsibility, self-control, self-confidence, and problem-solving skills. My goal is to create a safe, nurturing environment for children to express themselves while learning these valuable skills. For older clients, I use both mindfulness based techniques and CBT approaches to therapy. Learning how to control the body through breath is the first step in learning how to control the mind. When working with clients who have been through traumatic experiences, I always try to teach mindfulness techniques first to not only give them a coping skill, but help build our relationship as well. From there we will use CBT to learn how thought effect emotion which affects behaviors. No matter the age of the client, I always try to see things through a cross-cultural and trauma-informed lens.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everyone deserves respect when inside my office. No matter the problems you face, I am not here to provide judgement but to express empathy and acceptance. One of the core beliefs of Child-Centered Play Therapy is to accept a child unconditionally - and the same holds true for parents. I proudly support the LGBTQ+ community and accept everyone, no matter their ethnicity or religious belief.
