About My Clients
My areas of focus include anxiety, depression/mood disorders, suicidal ideation, self-injurious behaviors, self-esteem issues, stress management, life transitions, relationship issues, family of origin issues, parenting skills, women's issues, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (pregnancy/postpartum), and chronic medical conditions.
My Background and Approach
I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles as well as have specialized training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a trauma-based therapy approach in my work. I can go deep if you want to go deep, focus on “the here and now” as well as “there and then,” and I am willing to give homework if you would like some. I also have a special place in my heart for working with the perinatal population after having survived anxiety and depression, during and after each of my three incredibly difficult, high-risk pregnancies. I know how isolating the road of perinatal mood/anxiety disorders can be. I was incredibly grateful then and still am now to the therapist I found and the supports I leaned on to help me through.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have practiced in various clinical settings including community mental health and outpatient therapy clinics. I understand how intimidating and overwhelming it can be to walk in and "bare your soul" to a stranger. It is my belief that to get what you need from your therapy experience you need to feel a connection with the therapist you are seeing. This is crucial to a positive therapy experience. With a compassionate, authentic, non-judgmental approach, I focus on creating a safe space in which each individual feels heard and understood, while promoting awareness, growth, and change. I identify as a highly sensitive person and an empath and enjoy supporting other highly sensitive people learning to balance/navigate/survive in this world that is full of stimulation. Often sessions with me will include opportunities for you to meet my youngest four-legged and furry babies. We have two kitties and a labradoodle and they enjoy hopping up on my desk or trying to climb onto my lap.
