About My Clients

Are you seeking answers to difficult questions? Are you interested in exploring, creating, and living your best life? Are you curious about how the parts of your identity intersect to create your unique experience, challenges, and gifts? My focus is on working with ages 18+, as individuals, couples, and in groups. I also have significant experience working with adolescents - particularly with Gifted and Talented (GT) and Twice Exceptional (2E) folx on academic, social, and career concerns.

My Background and Approach

I take a person-centered and existential approach to counseling - aspiring to help clients find meaning and direction in their lives and relationships. With 15 years of experience in career development and higher education, I have significant expertise in assisting adolescents and adults with college and career decision-making. I have also worked extensively with LGBTQ+ clients as individuals, couples, and in group settings on topics such as gender and sexual identity development, healthy relationships, and career development. I earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from The University of the Incarnate Word in December 1997, a Juris Doctor from The University of Texas School of Law in Austin in May 2001, and a Master of Arts in Counseling from The University of Texas at San Antonio in December 2009. I studied abroad in both Guanajuato, Mexico and Kumamoto, Japan. I enjoy frequent travel, language study, and cultural exchange.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I grew up in a Southern Baptist tradition, but I am currently not religious. I have studied other faiths and adapt to various belief systems in my counseling approach. I have worked extensively with LGBTQ+ clients, providing fully affirmative and inclusive care. I am a past PFLAG Board member and remain an active ally in the community. I believe in a woman's right to bodily autonomy and am working to unlearn a bunch of patriarchal BS that we all have to unpack. Also, swearing allowed/encouraged in session! Divergence Counseling is a safe place to show up authentically and work that shit out.
