About My Clients
Welcoming all pregnant and postpartum women/birth-able people and their partners! The transition into parenthood can be challenging for most people, and for some, those challenges are unmanageable. Mental health-related conditions are the leading cause of maternal death in the US! Fathers and partners are also significantly affected. Please contact me if this resonates with you and let's work together to see how we develop a plan that can restore your joy for parenthood.
My Background and Approach
With a 20 year-long career in nursing, 12 years as a Certified Nurse Midwife and 2 years as s Psych Nurse Practitioner, I am very well-versed in people care. While working as a midwife, I became painfully aware of the mental health issues that affected so many clients and their families and returned to school so I could serve their mental health needs. As a black woman, I noticed and have been on the receiving end of differences in care among racialized and low income groups, so I promote and practice diversity and inclusion. Pregnancy and birth are very intimate subjects, so my approach is always client-centered and trauma-focused. During our work together, we will walk through your perinatal journey and develop a path to restore your mental health and wellbeing.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe in equitable treatment for all human beings. I have experienced race-based discrimination and work diligently to ensure my clients never will feel that from me. I consider myself an advocate for racialized and low income groups and will talk about the plight to anyone who will listen. I am active in several professional nursing organizations, ACNM, APNA (DEI committee), ANA, ANCC, APGA, PSI (POC member), PAPNA, AABC, CTCNM. I do this because I understand the most palpable change comes through systems, and the groundwork is with the organizations who directly impact the populations I serve. In doing this work, I sometimes find I am the only person of color in the room, which further validates my participation. Work with me and you will see I am committed to providing unbiased, inclusive care to all my clients.
