About My Clients
Therapy will involve exploring the habits, behavior, and emotions that make up who each of us are as a unique indiviual with diverse life experiences. Most of the time, therapy will focus on mental health functioning but we will also take a look at what physical health issues may be impacting your health or functioning.
My Background and Approach
My job is to help you be more successful at targeting any problems that have come up for you at this point in your life. We will work together to understand what’s working well and what’s not working so together we can identify and begin to work on your immediate concerns and if you have any long-term goals you want to work on in therapy. As a part of your personal growth, there may be times when I recommend things you might try on your own like reading some self-help material and practicing various kinds of skills on your own. We will work together to find what works best for how you live and function.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everyone can change and grow at any time in their lives. I don't believe that there is a limit to human capacity. I think the main reason we develop mental health issues is because they are unhealthy learned behaviors that we have picked up along the way. Through our lived experiences we have learned ways to manage our feelings and how we perceive the world. Many times how we've coped with these experiences lead us to unhealthy ways of being (relationship patterns, communication). This interferes with the ability to have healthy and satisfying relationships both personal and professional. I believe self-knowledge is crucial to being able to make and embrace change. How can you change when you don't know what it is you might want to change.
