About My Clients
I work with multi-cultural individuals, first- and second-generation immigrants experiencing anxiety, stress, exhaustion from: the many roles and identities they may hold; attempting to build their own lives; or creating boundaries. All while trying to navigate their family of origin, loved ones, peers, and multiple lived cultures. The stressful experiences may be stemming from life transitions; relational issues; or inner conflict due to challenging familial, societal and cultural expectations.
My Background and Approach
As a second generation Southeast Asian American woman and a child of refugees, I can empathize with straddling the different roles and identities we form for ourselves while attempting to balance our family of origin, loved ones, peers, and the multiple cultures and social systems that we live in. My warm and relaxed therapeutic approach focuses on the strength and self-determination that you already possess. My role is to provide a comfortable space for you to flesh out the issues you are experiencing; to help develop insight, self-esteem and confidence; and to create new goals, thoughts and behavior patterns. I have 10+ years of providing short-term and long-term evidence-based therapeutic support in New York City for adults experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, relational issues, life transitions, and substance use. I have worked with clients from diverse racial, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As multi-cultural individuals, 1st and 2nd generation immigrants, we can unconsciously go in and out of different roles and identities we have formed for ourselves. There is a balancing act of working on ourselves while trying to meet the needs of many systems. Through the pursuit of trying to do everything and trying to please everyone, it's only normal to feel stressed, anxious, sad, just to name a few emotions. Culturally, there is a tendency to not seek help and to not prioritize one's mental health. As a society, as we talk more and more about mental health, my hope is for individuals of all ages and backgrounds to engage in therapeutic support. In turn, my hope is also for all individuals to have access to therapeutic support.
