About My Clients
My clients are everyday people—mothers, fathers, friends, etc. They have faced extraordinary challenges and have dared to ask for help. My clients are men, women, and couples with various cultural backgrounds and identities. They don't have anything "wrong" with them but rather never learned the necessary skills to thrive in this world. Together we work on learning healthy coping, communication, and relating to others. We also process and heal past wounds to make space for new discoveries.
My Background and Approach
My foundational counseling training is from CU Denver, which prides itself in the Multicultural curriculum. There I learned the importance of the cultural context surrounding my clients and their identities. My program also specialized in relational counseling and provided training to work with individuals and couples. In addition, I've taken additional training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples, which is an evidence-based approach to working with couples. I believe in working collaboratively with my clients and providing them space to feel seen, heard, and understood. My favorite analogy is people as plants. There are all sorts of plants with very different needs. Some plants thrive in tropical climates, and some prefer the desert. If a plant isn't growing, it's typically not the plants' fault but rather the environment. My clients are the plants, and it's my job to cultivate an environment that fits their needs for growth.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that everyone deserves to have a safe space to heal and process the challenges of living in this world. I think that our experiences and life circumstances have a substantial impact on our trajectory, and I don't believe that people should feel shame due to things that were mostly out of their control.
