About My Clients
My clients come ready or not to enter a journey of self-exploration. As they are ready, they show courage in acknowledging their histories and discovering hope for their futures. My clients, both individuals and couples, have a variety of needs and most often seek help in the areas of relationships and sexuality, aging, anxiety, depression, personal growth, self-esteem and substance use/abuse.
My Background and Approach
I came to my counseling career later in life with humility in serving others and with reverence for the therapeutic relationship. My own experience as a counseling client informs my practice. Through a person-centered approach, we can work collaboratively to help you find your way, your hope, and the power that resides within you. I use elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) as well as mindfulness in my approach.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We can all start before we are ready to explore our inner and external worlds. When not counseling, I enjoy hiking, dancing/movement, practicing mindfulness and backpacking. I believe in the power of mindfulness and meditation to bring us to the present reality and keep us from getting hooked by distressing thoughts and emotions.
