About My Clients
My primary specialty is substance use disorders and my secondary is trauma (not EMDR certified as of yet). I've work with many different individuals, especially within the minority populations (i.e., LGBTQ, Afr. American., Native Amer., etc.) since I've been a therapist.
My Background and Approach
I consider myself an Eclectic Therapist. I follow the client and implement approaches that best fit the needs of the patient. I don't always believe in "pre-planning therapy" but I do believe in following a treatment plan, as this lays out the where the patient wants to go, and the path the patient thinks will help her/him to achieve their goals/objectives. I don't believe that therapy is what the therapist "believes it should", as the person who is struggling directly is the patient, her or himself.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My personal beliefs is that the therapist should not dictate therapy to patients, but help guide, assist, and teach the patient how to achieve her or his goals. The most important technique that any one therapist can implement is the therapeutic relationship. This is the most effective change agent in therapy.
