This work happens through an examination of your childhood experiences, exploring the subconscious through dreams and symbols, and then learning and practicing concrete tools to help you start feeling better today.
Together, we can learn concrete skills for changing our thought patterns, which in turn will change your feelings and behavior. CBT is an evidence based treatment - we know that it works, and we know how to use to help you feel how you want to be feeling.
Art is healing. Whether you consider yourself skilled or not, creating images to express internal experiences is a powerful process. I will guide you through experimentation with image, form, shape, color, and symbol to unearth meaning and find healing.
Change, even positive change, is difficult. Together, we’ll learn coping skills that will allow you to face the new challenges life has handed you. We’ll tweak and enhance the self care strategies you have already identified, and we’ll learn additional techniques that are uniquely suited to buoying you through this period of transition, keeping you feeling confident, healthy, and hopeful.
If we determine together that self worth and self esteem are areas in which you could use some therapeutic support, treatment will likely include a combination of: examination of your earliest attachments, “unlearning” negative or inaccurate beliefs, and developing enriching and dynamic self care practices. As your thoughts about yourself change and shift, so too will your behavior.
Anxiety can be beneficial to us in some cases; it may keep us safe by reminding us to be aware of potential dangers. But it is harmful to us if we start to feel frightened or stressed even when we aren’t in danger. Anxiety treatment with me will involve learning to understand your anxiety, when you need it and - more importantly - when you don’t.
