About My Clients
I have trained as an art therapist, as I believe there is more than one way to express oneself, communicate to others ones' wants and needs, and to process past and current traumas. My clients come in all shapes and sizes, and do NOT need to "be artistic" or have a specific interest in art to gain coping, social and life skills through our work together. If you feel the traditional "talk therapy" is not for you, I may be able to help.
My Background and Approach
I graduated with her Master of Art in Art Therapy from Albertus Magnus College. Before joining CMS Therapy Group, I was an Art Therapist at Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital where I utilized my skills to help children and families work through trauma, cope with loss, process feelings related to illness, and reduce pain symptoms. Before that, I worked with children, adolescents and adults in inpatient and Intensive Outpatient Program settings at Bridgeport Hospital, and at a residential treatment facility. I utilize 2-D, 3-D, music and movement therapy to help client's identify, express and process emotions, develop coping and skills, and improve their sense of self. I also blend in more "traditional" therapy methods during treatment interventions, such as CBT, Trauma-focused CBT, DBT and mindfulness.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am an Adjunct Professor at Springfield College where I supervises students and develops curriculum for its Art Therapy/Counseling Graduate Program, as I feel it is vital to "pay it forward" and teach the skills needed to be competent and compassionate therapist to the next generation. I am also the Curriculum Chair and a board member at Sawubona – a community-based initiative to support the mental health and resiliency of children, adolescents and their families through creative expression.
