About My Clients
Therapy can be a place where you finally have room to breathe, unpack what you have been carrying, and begin putting the pieces back together. Together, we will explore the patterns that keep repeating and build practical tools for emotional regulation, boundaries, and healthier relationships using trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches, including DBT-informed skills and ACT. If faith is important to you, Christian integration can be incorporated respectfully and in a client-led way.
My Background and Approach
I am Kelly R. Thompson, MA, LPC-Associate, with 26 years of experience in the mental health field. I earned my Master’s degree in Counseling from Dallas Baptist University and currently practice under the supervision of Diana Hamm, LPC-S. In addition to individual therapy, I have extensive experience facilitating structured therapeutic groups, including mood and anxiety-focused groups and eating disorder treatment groups. I am also an Adjunct Professor with Pepperdine University’s Graduate School of Education and Psychology, teaching graduate-level coursework in counseling and interpersonal process. My clinical work is grounded in trauma-informed care and integrates evidence-based modalities to support healing, emotional regulation, healthier relationships, and meaningful long-term change.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My work is shaped by my passion for marginalized communities receiving therapy in a safe, culturally informed, and emotionally respectful space. I am the author of Black Women Can Do Therapy: Your Therapeutic Roadmap to Breakthrough, a 90-minute intersectional narrative rooted in belonging, identity, and healing. I am a person of faith and a committed Christ follower, and I previously served in a large megachurch ministry supporting over 30,000 members and the local community. I also value the connection found in smaller church environments. While my faith is important to me, I approach therapy with humility and respect for each client’s worldview. I welcome clients from diverse spiritual and belief backgrounds, including those who identify as atheist, agnostic, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, spiritual-but-not-religious, or unsure. My role is not to impose a belief system, but to provide a supportive space where you feel safe, understood, and empowered.
