About My Clients
Finding a therapist competent in and understanding of eating disorders, chronic illness, trauma, and spirituality/sexuality issues is a difficult task, and I am glad you are here! Our sessions will provide you with the opportunity to work through the underlying mental health-related issues that are keeping you stuck like trauma, anxiety, depression, and other aspects of your life. Your individualized recovery is important and deserves the best care available to you.
My Background and Approach
When addressing complex issues such as eating disorders, chronic illness, trauma, sexuality, and spirituality, it is essential that we look at your unique situation from a holistic perspective. We will begin by talking about your history, goals, and strengths to create your individualized treatment plan. Then we will work to gain insight into your values to help you live more authentically and move beyond your struggles. Individualized care is a priority, including providing referrals to and coordination with multidisciplinary providers to ensure holistic treatment. As a specialist in eating disorders, chronic illness, trauma, issues of spirituality and sexuality, and co-occurring disorders, I prioritize completing frequent training, research, and consultation related to these areas with well-respected professionals in their fields. In addition to an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, I have a PhD in Counselor Education and Supervision from the University of the Cumberlands.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I started Refuge Counseling as a way to increase access to specialty counseling because I saw a large disparity related to privilege in mental healthcare. I believe anyone who experiences mental health concerns deserves high-quality, dependable counseling and related services, and I work hard to encourage other specialty providers to increase access to their services. I am very involved with advocacy surrounding weight stigma, particularly in healthcare. I have been very intentional in creating a safe space at Refuge for people of all sizes and abilities and do my best to accommodate any needs I can. Life is hard sometimes, but freedom is possible. Whether it's trauma, an eating disorder, chronic illness, struggles with spirituality or sexuality, or a myriad other concerns, it's never too late to reach out. It is important to feel confident in your therapist's knowledge, skill, and "fit" for you. Please reach out by email or phone to see if I am the right therapist for you!
