My Background and Approach
Wouldn't it be amazing to be able to look back on past painful experiences and be able to acknowledge that they happened but to not have your body flooded by the memory of that experience? That is what EMDR therapy can provide for you. It really is fast relief! In the same way that if you cut your hand and didn't care for the wound, that wound would grow infected and be painful to the touch even years after due to the residual effect. EMDR allows us to go into that old painful wound, clear out all that infection and let you truly heal so that you are left with a painless scar as the only long-term reminder of that experience. Relief doesn't have to be years in the making with EMDR. It allows you to move forward in your life without being controlled and directed by these memories, panic attacks and triggers of old trauma.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am an active member of the LGBTQ community, identify as a feminist, believe strongly in the empowerment and elevation of women's voices and rights and have worked for the last 20 years at non-profit organizations aimed at eradicating domestic violence and child abuse. My therapeutic style is one of directive warmth, looking to utilize the strengths of the client and to empower them to move forward toward hope, freedom and confidence. I hope that my style embodies the very idea of a haven: a place of safety, refuge, or a port from the storm.
