About My Clients
I believe making sure clients are proactive & committed to their goals helps them to achieve their best & most satisfied life. It is important to look at the whole family system and the whole individual to find the right intervention to match their presenting concerns. Parents cannot take their children any further in their healing than what they have gone in their own healing. Raising hurt kiddos will take you to the edge and back but will also be the most rewarding experience of your life.
My Background and Approach
I have worked in Human Services, Child Welfare, Community Health Care and Mental Health for over 20 years. I have an extensive history working with children, teens, adults, couples, parents and seniors. I have worked in reunifying families with their biological children, kinship care, adoption, foster care, and adult child welfare system survivors for a large majority of my career. As an adoptive parent of 4, I understand the challenges associated with raising children from "hard places." I am currently working for a Community Health Organization that provides medical and mental health treatment to underserved and underinsured individuals as I build my private practice. Through this work I have provided services of a very diverse scope to adults 18-100 years old who are presenting with traditional mental health concerns as well as, end of life counseling, grief counseling, pain management, complicated medical needs, medical anxiety as well as a host of other presenting concerns.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that all people go through life accumulating a certain level of hurt that impacts their physical & mental health, as well as their daily success with life activities & relationships. I have worked with individuals & families to heal their hurts from infancy through end of life. I believe healing is possible at any stage across the life span. I love working with parents & helping them to learn to meet the needs of their unique children in ways that build relationships while instituting structure & compliance through relational activities. I have greatly enjoyed working with adults of various ages to help them to resolve past issues & begin to live their best lives. Of course, I also love children. I learned early on that a child's language is expressed through activity: play, art, games, role plays, sensory based coping skills & visual learning. Words are not enough for our youngest brains. I have also worked extensively w/ LGBTQIA youth, adults & their families.
