About My Clients
I work with children, adolescents, adults, and families. I have specific specialties in early childhood mental health and permanency/adoption concerns. I am trained in Trauma Informed Child Parent Psychotherapy (TI- CPP) for children under 6 and completed the Permanency and Adoption Competency program through the UMN in early 2015. I enjoy family systems work and use an integrated approach to assure that parents, caregivers, and families are as involves as appropriate in their child's therapy.
My Background and Approach
I use a multi-dimensional approach to therapy based on the age, development, and presenting concerns of the child, adolescent, or family. I tend to use a lot of play and art based expression while maintaining curiosity and playfulness. I believe in the need for caregiver involvement and want parents/caregivers to be an active part of therapy. I am Rostered in Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) and have the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Endorsement. I also have significant training in adoption/foster care support issues. I always use a trauma informed, developmental approach with all minor clients. I use a gentle, supportive, and strengths-focused approach to parents and parenting.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that children deserve a supportive and tailored therapeutic approach. There is no shortage of "generalist" clinicians who can work with a wide variety of populations. However, our children and adolescents often need clinicians who understand mental health within the context of development and the unique aspects of learning and growing up. Within this framework, I also see the caregivers as essential supports to their children. I work hard to support the child/adolescent as well as the caregivers that come with them.
