I am a clinical psychologist, a psychoanalyst, and a clinical psychopharmacologist. I treat bipolar disorder, depression, and anxiety.
Clinical Psychologist in Pasadena, CA
I treat most anxiety disorders including social anxiety disorder, panic disorder and agoraphobia, and generalized anxiety disorder. I use psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, exposure therapy, and collaborative psychopharmacological approaches with our staff psychiatrist. Anxiety disorders often co-occur with other disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, substance disorders, or trauma, so I conduct a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation at the start of treatment.
I treat depression using psychodynamic, interpersonal and social rhythm therapy, circadian rhythms therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychoeducation, and collaborative Psychopharm=macology with our staff psychiatrist. I believe that depression comes from past traumatic experiences, genetic predispositions, current life stressors, dysfunctional unconscious schemas and cognitions, and self-defeating behaviors. Co-occurring anxiety or substance abuse also must be treated successfully.
The treatment of bipolar disorder is a subspecialty of mine. I conduct a careful diagnostic evaluation to identify and treat co-occurring disorders and high-rusk behaviors such as suicide or violence. I can admit and treat patients in hospital if necessary. In outpatient work I work closely with our staff psychiatrist to stabilize patients on medication, provide psychoeducation, stabilize circadian rhythms, and address stress, especially interpersonal stress. I incorporate family therapy also.
I am trained in Interpersonal Therapy and Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy. These treatment approaches are evidence-based approaches for the treatment of depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, and other psychological conditions.
I routinely use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with patients, often in combination with other approaches. CBT is an evidence-based treatment for a wide variety of conditions including depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, OCD spectrum disorders, psychotic spectrum disorders, and substance use disorders.
I have a doctorate and certification in psychoanalysis. Psychoanalysis and psychodynamic therapy are very useful for addressing early childhood trauma, repetitive maladaptive personality patterns in adulthood, and chronic personality issues that interfere with self-esteem, quality of life, friendships, family and intimate relationships, career success, and emotional satisfaction.
