About My Clients
There are times in life where the hole we're trying to dig ourselves out of just keeps getting deeper- it feels like you're not even working with dirt anymore, but quicksand. If that's the spot you're in, that is exactly where I'll meet you. The climb may be steep and you may lose ground, but when that happens, I'll help you find your footing and together we can set about a new path.
My Background and Approach
The work you will do in practice will be personalized to your values and applicable in your everyday life. Often, doing work that largely goes unseen and understanding yourself is necessary towards healing but we may also need concrete steps forward on how to navigate difficult situations. I will be there with you as you do the work of recognizing troublesome patterns- but I will also help if you just need a snack and advice on how to get your landlord to address the flooding issue or get the kids to eat something other than chicken nuggets. There is no cookie-cutter approach to a well-lived life, but there are many tools for us to learn as we go about solving issues and seeking change .When you step through the doors of my office, we will go over your personal story, identify main characters and plot twists, and see how you can once again be the protagonist. Then perhaps we can drop your version of the Ring into the fires of Mount Doom (for my Lord of the Rings fans).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that all of us have some internal story about who we are, and these stories can feature us as the protagonist, a villain, or perhaps a background character. Whichever part you find yourself playing, when we lose the plot in our own lives, we begin to feel disconnected, lost. As a result, we may begin to manifest unhelpful thinking patterns or behaviors. I've found myself in that spot before- stuck in a foggy world devoid of true meaning and frustrated at my powerlessness. Taking on extra work, trying new workout routines and diets, researching self-help, none of it answered my questions. For me, the answer wasn't more, but less. By turning inward, and with the support of a therapist, medication, and a caring community, I was able to reshape my understanding of who I was and take action according to my values. It isn't about becoming worthy- it's about realizing you are already are.
