Therapist in Ypsilanti, MI

About My Clients

I provide individual and relationship therapy (couples, familes) to clients who are struggling to feel securely connected in their most important relationships, with a focus on serving those in healthcare and helping professions (including other therapists) who suppress, avoid, defer, people-please, peace-keep, dissociate, or lash out. Your relationships may feel tense, chaotic, strained, or unfulfilling. The same conflicts replay over and over. It's hard to open up, trust, and rely on others.

My Background and Approach

You need backup. I can help. Together we can work towards feeling connected, seen, safe, and loved by getting curious about your experience, your needs, your history, how you’ve made it this far, and what’s missing. We will practice new ways of being and attend to unmet needs. We’ll face the scary stuff - conflict, big emotions, trauma - and make sense of it together. I'm not afraid of your emotions. I'm not judging your vices. I'm not deterred by how calm and collected you may appear. You’re smart. You’re capable. You’re struggling. You don’t have to go it alone. Let's make space together to get curious, for once, about you. When inquiring, please share your insurance, availability to meet, and the best way to reach you.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I come to this work after over a decade of involvement in peer-support, harm reduction, & popular education initiatives, mad pride movements, community organizing, and other grass roots social justice work. I have come to believe that attending to our own relational wounds and habits is an essential part of social change; as we work to create changes at policy and institutional levels, we must also attend to the intra- and inter-personal chaos we've taken on from the world around us via upbringing, socialization, and surviving in a world that encourages competition, violence, numbness, disconnection, and disengagement. A formal diagnostic framework is not central to how I understand clients and approach therapy, but rather a means to accessibility of care via insurance utilization. I align more with non-pathologizing approaches that see the sense, strength, and creativity in our adaptations, while also considering what those adaptations are costing us now.
