About My Clients
Do you ever feel like you take care of everyone around you and can't find the time or energy to care for yourself? Do you experience imposter syndrome or anxiety and sometimes don't even know where it is coming from? Is there a part of you that tends to be self-critical and you don't know how to manage it? When we experience distressing events in our lives, they can create negative beliefs about ourselves that can impact the way we navigate our world. Your pain is real and you are not alone.
My Background and Approach
Change can happen and I want to help you get there. I work from a person centered, trauma informed lens and primarily practice EMDR therapy with a parts work influence. I run virtual adult and older teen Dungeons and Dragons therapy groups for exploring issues within a safe therapeutic space that can also be fun. The groups can be a great space to work on communication, social anxiety, problem solving, boundary setting, and so much more. I have experience helping clients to navigate difficult life transitions, process traumatic memories, manage anxiety symptoms, and build a stronger relationship with themselves. My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that we are all capable of change and healing. I also believe that we need to be seeking therapy for ourselves when we are ready and not solely for someone else. Therapy is hard work and it will be painful at times but in order to get to the other side, we first have to go through it. I am Puerto Rican and grew up in an environment that did not discuss mental health and had a stigma around therapy. Through my own therapy, I was able to overcome the negative core belief that emotion is weakness, which was what I was taught. It is a strength. I think many BIPOC individuals can relate to the stigma of mental health in our ethnic backgrounds. It can create a barrier and even if we want therapy and believe in it, we might have some internalized stigma from what we saw and heard growing up. What we learn as children stays with us. We initially learn to see the world the way those around us do and it can be hard to see outside of that lens. Let us tackle that barrier together.
