I support all couples, adult individuals, and families. My purpose is to provide a safe space for the mental, emotional, and spiritual healing from life's challenges. I strive to get to the root of the presenting issue. Whether you struggle with relationship issues, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, self-esteem, or any other issue, you should know that there is hope for a better tomorrow. This healing process is all about YOU discovering and presenting to the world your best self.
My Background and Approach
My approach is person-centered, utilizing an eclectic mix of therapy techniques. I practice cultural relativism, responsiveness, and mindfulness. Each relationship dynamic and each person is unique and will require a unique approach. My forward focused, direct style is tailored to meet the needs of each client and delivered with empathy. We will utilize body movement during sessions and sometimes have walk and talk sessions. Homework will be assigned to help integrate learned skills and techniques into your daily life. By working on skills and techniques daily, you can gain the mental power needed to control your body and thoughts. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Kansas, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Iowa, and a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC) in Missouri. I hold certifications as an Advanced Grief Counselor (CAGCS), Trauma Professional (CTP), and in Solution Focused Brief Therapy with Trauma (SFBT-Trauma).
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe even the strongest among us need a help to work through life’s more challenging problems. Everyone has battles to fight and hurdles to overcome at some point. I believe those defense mechanisms and survival techniques that we learned and served us well in childhood are detrimental to us today, as an adult. I believe therapy is a way to unpack those traumas, learn to forgive yourself, and learn a healthy was of functioning in this world. I believe in relationship with God, not religion. I believe having a faith base, or hope in something bigger than ourselves, helps in the healing process. In my daily life, I enjoy the sunshine, observing nature, and cooking.
