About My Clients
The world we live in is not an accepting place. Within my chosen family, I hold and value relationships with people in the alphabet mafia (aka the LGBTQ+ community), substance misuse, black, indigenous and persons of color, and military and law enforcement communities. There are profound stigmas associated with those communities but that does not mean their mental health is any less important. Hence, my interest in supporting those communities within my therapeutic practice.
My Background and Approach
After working over a decade in veterinary medicine and spending a majority of my time talking with clients influenced by Grief, Loss, and Anxiety, I decided to venture back to school to obtain a Master's in Clinical Psychology. Through my studies in psychology, I was exposed to Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), which allows me to utilize my two careers paths: veterinary medicine and psychology. EAP aligns with the theory that drives my therapeutic approach, Narrative Therapy, because it allows for growth, story development, externalization, introspections, reality checking, etc, in a neutral, non-judgement, safe space.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Without getting to deep, "personal beliefs" immediately reference religious beliefs to me. Long story short, I believe the Golden Rule is best practice for individuals and the greater good. Personal beliefs also bring up what values I hold. I have an activity I do with clients about values. It consists of over 80 value words and definitions. Needless to say, I hold many but the ones that inform my life and work on a daily basis are Caring, Genuineness, and Acceptance.
