About My Clients
If you're struggling with negative beliefs or intense feelings about yourself--or your body--you know it's not easy to simply flip a switch and think or feel differently. In fact, your inner system has probably held on to those beliefs for a reason, even if it seems they're getting in your way. I enjoy helping folks explore the root causes of those responses and access the internal resources they need for healing, so they can live more freely.
My Background and Approach
I've been a therapist for 10 years. In the first part of my career, I worked with folks in acute treatment settings (inpatient and intensive outpatient programs) to help stabilize their mental health. In the last five years, I've focused more on disordered eating (first in day treatment, now in outpatient), body image, attachment issues and the impacts of trauma and attachment wounds. Some of the learning I've done as a therapist that has impacted me the most includes trainings on attending to emotions (I promise--they are all trying to help!), Health at Every Size, somatic- and attachment-focused Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). These have all helped me more deeply understand the impacts of the past--from family systems and protective beliefs formed early on to acute traumatic experiences--as well as how they might show up in the present moment and how to approach healing.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My utmost goal is to create a safe space for your healing. If you've been harmed by the dominant culture we live in or by your family of origin (even inadvertently), I believe your growth requires a reparative experience of feeling that your emotions are valid and who you are matters. I strive to do that by always meeting you with empathy and respect. While I am not a member of the LQBTQIA2S+ or BIPOC communities, I am dedicated to cultural competency education and understanding the dynamics of privilege and oppression in all their forms and the impact that has on one’s mental health.
