About My Clients
You are having a difficult time coping with life and could use some extra support? I provide support based on what you need on that day - whether it be problem solving, coping skills training, processing thoughts and feelings or maybe just listening. I prioritize my client's autonomy and believe that YOU are the authority on you and your lived experience. As a helper, I am here to assist you in discovering what you want and need and meet the goals you set for yourself.
My Background and Approach
When I began counseling, I was determined to help people find the ultimate "life hacks" for their stress and anxiety. So I developed an arsenal of skills, tools, and techniques to help people better "control" their thoughts and emotions. But with experience, I realized that these hacks don't always work, and often leave clients feeling like they failed. Now I recognize and respect the balance between the need for daily coping skills and the story (your lived experiences) that drive these needs. I primarily utilize ACT and IFS techniques in order to provide solution-focused coping skills training, while compassionately embracing the different parts of you that have gotten you through life (even your anxious parts!) With this approach, clients have the opportunity to address immediate life challenges, create value-driven goals for the future, all while developing a better understanding of and relationship with their unique internal system.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe we all have the potential to change and grow at any time in their lives. I also recognize that most systems in our world are embedded with bias, which have historically resulted in overt and covert discrimination. The consequences of this are vast, but one example is the significant impact on an individual’s capacity to cope with stress and have opportunities to reach their potential. I am a member of the LGBTQ+ community and strive to hold a safe space for those in marginalized communities to feel seen, heard, and supported. I also support our first responders and, as a LEO spouse, I can offer a unique understanding and appreciation for the dedication, sacrifice, and risk that is required of our first responders and their families. I am an avid animal lover and have volunteered with countless rescue organizations over the past 20 years.
